The fuser drive gear turns brown and crumbles due to heat and age. A great tell tale sign that the gear needs to be replaced is the pile of plastic shavings near the rear side of the fuser. Another cause for gear failure is a fusing unit that is starting to seize up. As the fusing unit gets harder to turn the gear will will wear down. As a result the fusing unit will lose drive. This is the fusing drive gear (30T) that is mounted on the swing arm. Sometimes the other smaller gear (24T) on the swing arm will need to be replaced too. Both part numbers are listed below.
